The Musicmakers Workshops were made possible through a grant awarded by MMINO, a Norwegian Education and Music Programme. The grant of R100,000 (hundred thousand Rand) is to be used by Musicmakers to host 6 workshops throughout South Africa.
The Musicmakers Workshops are designed to be a series of interactive and outcome based workshops for educators and learners with the following aims:
to develop a culture of music theatre in all South African high schools
to promote and introduce 4 Musicals for Young People to educators and learners
to train and develop educators on how to mount a high school musical production with their learners
to distribute economy packs of the musicals and self-help manuals to disadvantaged and marginalised groups
to inspire and motivate learner participation
to introduce the concept of performance and musical story telling to learners
to develop musical and theatre skills of learners
The Musicmakers Workshops will be hosted in one major centre and in one rural centre in all nine provinces in South Africa over a period of three years.
The Musicmakers Workshops will develop co-operation of educators from different socio- economic backgrounds to share resources.
